What to Expect

What to expect on the first visit ...
On the first visit the patient is given a free consultation. Next, the doctor performs an in-depth physical exam to determine if the patient is a candidate for care. The exam starts with a detailed history of the patient's health. Then the
doctor performs orthopedic tests and does a postural exam. The Insight Millennium is later used to evaluate the nerves and musculature surrounding the spinal column. Valuable diagnostic information is gathered from this state of the art computer. If the doctor determines that the patient could benefit from upper cervical care, then three dimensional pictures are taken of the patient's spine. This is done using our laser aligned GTR High Frequency X-ray unit. It is the most technologically advanced system available. The films are analyzed taking into account the size, shape, and articulation of the vertebra in the upper cervical region. It is then determined how far from normal the spine has misaligned and an exact listing is calculated mathematically that will allow the doctor to effectively realign the entire spinal column.

On the second visit ...
When the patient returns on the second visit, the doctor will first explain the x-ray findings to the patient. The NUCCA procedure will be explained to the patient prior to the adjustment. The first correction will then be performed. Afterwards, the patient will spend the next 15 minutes resting in the recovery room. Finally, the patient will have another Insight Millennium scan to check for changes to his/her nervous system, and confirm a successful correction. The patient will return in 3 days for a routine visit.

MY FIRST UPPER CERVICAL SPINAL CORRECTION
Dr. Daniel O. Clark, D.C. ©2003

Yes, I now understand why the Upper Cervical Spinal Correction is a specialty in the field of Chiropractic – no jerking, twisting or cracking; just a gentle touch on the side of the neck that is barely felt.

This is possible because of the precision x-ray analysis, prior to the correction, that provided the Doctor with the exact formula used for the correction. The formula was engineered for my individual correction. No two formulas are the same; each one is developed for that individual person.

As soon as the spinal correction is made and Body Balance is restored, muscles relax, blood and oxygen circulation increase, healing messages flow from the brain to the affected area, and the body's self-healing process is reactivated.

The first four to six weeks after the correction is the body's stabilization and healing period as it adapts to the new balanced, relaxed condition.

Listed below are some of the reactions and changes that are possible during the stabilization and healing period, as the body is at work restoring health:
  • Alleviation of symptoms
  • Tired and/or relaxed feeling
  • Light-headedness – possible headaches
  • Cold-like symptoms, i.e. runny nose, as the body goes through a cleansing process
  • Muscle stiffness in other parts of the body as it adapts to the correction
  • Pain in the area of an old injury
  • Tingling or heat sensation as blood and oxygen circulation continues to normalize
  • Body elimination changes – either diarrhea or constipation as the body adapts to changes after the correction
Symptoms may decrease immediately or pain may change and move to another area of the body. All are signs that indicate the self-healing process is working.

Most patients get results with the first spinal correction and will experience 85% or better results during the 4 to 6 weeks stabilization and healing period – provided Body Balance is maintained. It is very important for the Doctor to continue to monitor progress during this period to prevent any interruption of the healing cycle.
